Description

The course is structured toward producing literary fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and dramtic forms. Student writing will be the primary basis for critical discussion with emphasis on fundamental aspects of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and/or drama, as illustrated in master writers' work and demonstrated in student work. Readings, craft analysis, workshops, exercises, discussions, and lectures provide students with the opportunity to develop the craft of creative writing. This includes analyses of the major characteristics of the various genres of creative writing, including poetry, prose fiction, and nonfiction, as well as the practice of basic techniques or writing in the major genres. This is the first part of a two-course sequence. CRW1001 is a writing credit course. Students must earn a minimum grade of C to meet the requirements of the Gordon Rule for writing. CRW1001 meets the International/Intercultural competency requirement.
