At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand basic concepts of the U.S. Constitution and legal system, understand civil and criminal liability related to an officer's performance of job duties, know what constitutes a lawful search and seizure, know what constitutes a lawful arrest, be able to articulate the legal justification for the use of force, understand levels of criminal involvement, understand the legal rules and concepts of evidence, understand the subpoena process, understand legal proceedings and provide testimony, be familiar with the different categories and classes of offenses, understand enhanced penalties and alternative sentencing, and be able to interpret a scoresheet.
